The North Wales Big Band was born approx 25 years ago. it started small, used to rehearse in a cake shop, this kept everybody well fed!

The band was started by Russell McMahon from Bangor with several pupils and friends. Over the years he has gathered together many musicians, from brass bands, theatre orchestras and talented people who love to play big band music.

The band can vary in size from a minimum of 10 players to a maximum of sixteen.

Our musicians come from all along the North Wales coast from Holyhead in the west, to Chester in the east.

It has played for Weddings, Christenings, 100th Birthday Parties, Barbecues, Yacht Clubs, Golf Clubs, Rotary Conferences, Pubs, Clubs, Shopping Centre openings and at Venue Cymru, Theatre, Main Hall and Arena. you name it we've played in it!

It is a tribute to Russ that all of us enjoy what we do, playing this wonderful music, and making a unique sound that is the North Wales Big Band.

Our latest innovation is to have the Big Band fronted by four talented female singers, collectively called Quartz....they share our passion for the Big Band sound and those great classic hits of the era.
